LOCAL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FAMILY HONORED NATIONALLY BY SUPREME COUNCIL
Los Angeles, CA – February 08, 2018 –
St Alphonsus de Liguori Knights of Columbus Council 16112 was proud to announce that the family of Deputy Grand Knight Sergio Calva had been recognized by the Supreme Office in New Haven as 1 of 100 National Families of the Month for the Month of December.
Knights of Columbus encourage all councils and their members throughout the organization to nominate a family as part of the Family of the Month program.
“Sergio continues to show what is means to be a Catholic Gentleman and a Knights of Columbus, stated Grand Knight Rod Myers.” “His dedication to his fellow brother Knights is a true testament to his character and serves as a bright light in a time when the world needs more men like Sergio,” Myers went on to say.
The family was awarded a Holy Family Icon plaque from the Supreme Office due to his efforts.

His story: The Calva family is very active in the parish. Their children serve as Altar Servers at the 7:45 a.m. mass. They attend all the Knights functions and help planning all the events. Sergio serves as the Deputy Grand Knight Council 16112 and also as Captain of Assembly 3652. On December 21, 2017, he and his wife came to the aid of the Grand Knight’s wife and daughter. Their car had been vandalized in the church parking lot during an event, causing fear and grief for the Myers. The Calva family took it upon themselves to drive the Grand Knight’s car 30 miles back to his home while the parish secretary escorted the wife and daughter. They safely returned home. This deed they performed makes the Calva Family WELL deserving of Family of the Month and exhibits the true spirit of what being a member of the Knights of Columbus is truly about.
With almost two million members, the Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic lay organization. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, the community, families and young people.
